The Best Red Enchilada Sauce

Are you ready to make the best red enchilada sauce of your life? This sauce is SO easy to make and this recipe is the BEST. When I got the craving to make some beef enchiladas I ran down to the grocery store only to find they didn’t have any red enchilada sauce. Say what?! I guess they don’t know how important it is to keep that stuff in stock. :/ So, I had to get creative and make my own and I have to say it’s better than buying the can! I will never go back to buying store bought enchilada sauce. Yes, it’s that good.

The Best Red Enchilada Sauce


1 tablespoon olive oil

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon minced onion

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

2 tablespoons chili powder

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

1/8 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon of dried parsley

1 (6 oz) can tomato sauce

1/4 cup salsa

1 1/2 cups chicken broth

1 tablespoon flour



Heat the oil over medium heat. Saute the onion and garlic for 1-2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and stir well. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for one hour.

Add this sauce on top of the Best Beef Enchiladas EVER.
