It takes courage to stand up for something you believe in, especially when you are one of the few that believe in it. In a perfect world we would all have the same religion, we would all be the same race, we would all love the opposite sex… Is this really what we want? How boring of a world would this be if we all had the same point of view? Only a small percentage of people have the courage to live a black and white life and many of us live somewhere in the gray. We are held accountable for what we believe in and so many of us fear judgement will come from it. But, what does it mean when we don’t stand up for our rights, our thoughts, our opinions?
I applaud those who are strong-minded and aren’t afraid to share every opinion they have with you. They will find a way to argue their side all night if you give them a little reason to. They live a black and white life. We need these strong-minded individuals in this world and I applaud them.
I am not one of these people. I’m somewhere in the gray.
I am the type to go along to get along and I cringe at the thought of controversy. Conversate? Yes. Controverse. Run! It’s not that I don’t have an opinion but I don’t see the point of putting stress on myself in order to prove my point.
But it has me thinking. Would I rather be a a person of meaning, heart and significance or be judged by my passivity and indifference?
There is not a right or wrong. After all, why is my way of raising kids better than yours? It’s not the right way or the wrong way but its MY way and that in itself is a reason to stand up.
Let’s stand up for something, let’s have a voice. Don’t be gray in a black and white world. Can you think of something to stand up for? I’ve thought of a few things…
Reasons to stand up:
- Same sex marriage
- Mental Illness
- Animal Rights
- Cancer Research
- Women’s Equality
- Child Welfare
- Work at Home vs Stay at Home Moms
- Time outs
- Cry it out
- Kids diet
What are you standing up for?
